between the shadow and the soul

I am a New England native. The hills, trees, and the red brick soiled by time and memory have called me back home from my time among the the desert mountains and neon.

So one of my friends posted how some pastors in the US are speaking out and stating that gays should be executed because it is in the Bible, Leviticus to be exact.

Well I decided to look at Leviticus myself to see what else these pastors should be monitoring but most likely ignore. Let us go through a list of items in Leviticus 19 alone:

—Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed. (You want only one crop which I am sure is great for the diet).

—Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material. (In the modern age a poly-cotton blend is against the will of God).

—When you enter the land and plant any kind of fruit tree, regard its fruit as forbidden. For three years you are to consider it forbidden; it must not be eaten. In the fourth year all its fruit will be holy, an offering of praise to the Lord. But in the fifth year you may eat its fruit. In this way your harvest will be increased. (You need to wait to eat them apples! Hard to check in the supermarket so it must be ingnored).

—Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard. (No haircuts or shaving, please.)

—Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. (I am sure they check to make sure their congregation members have no tattoos. The first part of that command makes me go ????)

—When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt. (I do not hear their outcry over how immigrants are treated in the US)

There is some crazy ass shit in Leviticus and the rest of the Bible. If you take one thing from ancient desert dwelling Hebrew patriarchs, you have to take them all.
